Zbrush Practice: Balrog

The initial sculpt of the body took around an hour which is a lot faster and a lot better than my last sculpt so that's something. I added the wings as a separate subtool and used the Zspheres tool which was my first successful attempt. I created bones to guide where the wings would go stupidly assuming that putting the flappy bits in-between would be a walk in the park... I was wrong. After being recommended the Curve Quad Fill brush I gave it a go, had to learn how to freeze subdivisions but eventually I did it but had trouble getting 3 sections in. A friend linked me this tutorial which helped SO much and will be my go to method for sculpting any kind of wings in the future. After using alphas for texture and polypainting I was happy with the result.

Looking back on the sculpt I can see that I didn't change my wing bone tool over to the version that could be divided and it has suffered as a result of the low quality. I think that the horns could do with some more work. I also feel that the jaw of the face should be brought down more and the whole torso needs to lean forward more. I think it's my best effort to date and I'm really happy with what I've learned and the time taken!
